Pyrite with Limonite coating forms when Pyrite (iron sulfide) is exposed to oxygen and water. Over time, the surface of the Pyrite oxidises and transforms into Limonite (iron oxides/hydroxides). This creates a thin, often rusty or yellow-brown coating on the original Pyrite crystals, while the Pyrite core remains intact.
The result is Pyrite crystals that retain their cubic or pyritohedron shapes but are partially or fully coated with Limonite.
The contrast highlights the metallic shine of pyrite against the textured surface of limonite. This combination is believed to support grounding, focus and transformation. Many use it to encourage resilience, strength and a sense of balance in both energy and emotions.
